No, I'm not a blader. I've
been attending live organ skating sessions since 1981 (the median age of the skaters at these sessions is probably
around 60). Live organ music at rinks
was much more popular at rinks in days gone by, but there are a few rinks
that still provide this type of entertainment. For a guy my age who
started later in life (at age 39) than most, I think I do reasonably well.
I've never gotten into competition, but have taken some of the achievement
tests. A fall in October of 1994 cost me my left anterior crucia
ligament; that was a real learning experience - I now know much more about
the biology of the knee than I ever knew before! I now wear a protective
brace while skating, but I still enjoy it. Freak accidents do
happen.
